How to Reduce EMF Exposure in the Home
Although EMF exposure can come from many things in the home, there are some simple things that you can do to reduce EMF exposure.
Electronic Devices & Appliances
Instead of using your laptop with it sitting in your lap, place it on a desk or table. (4) In addition, be sure to put some distance between yourself and the TV when you’re watching your favorite shows and movies. Similarly, when using the microwave, be careful not to stand too close. Consider switching off devices like your printer, along with appliances like your washers and dryers, when they are not in use. (3)
Cellphones
When talking on your cellphone, avoid holding your phone directly against your head. Instead, use headphones or place the phone in speaker mode. (4) Another way to reduce EMF exposure from your cellphone is to avoid sleeping with your phone plugged in on the nightstand or next to you. Instead, sleep with your phone charging across the room or better yet, in another room. (3)
Overall
If your home uses radiant electrical heating, look into other, safer means of heating your home. Another easy way to reduce EMFs is to simplify the cord setup in your home so there aren’t as many electrical wires going into a single power strip or outlet, and that extension cords do not loop over each other. In addition, when not in use, and particularly while you are sleeping, turn off your Wi-Fi router to reduce EMF exposure in the home. (1)
Another way to reduce EMFs in your household is to set goals as a family to reduce screen time. This can include things like reducing time watching TV and reducing time using time-consuming apps like social media and games on your cellphones.
